I have always loved being out in nature and spending time walking through beautiful scenery. Throughout my teens, twenties and thirties I spent countless hours doing just that, although I did so with a golf bag on my back rather than a camera bag.
As my thirties drew to a close I bought my first interchangeable lens camera and became instantly obsessed with photography, another passion which was very compatible with my love of the outdoors. The after effects of a back injury suffered in my early thirties eventually prevented me from being competitive on the golf course any longer and photography became my sole focus.
I spent the best part of two decades working in the technology industry (for Nokia and then Microsoft) before a company strategy change led to the winding down of the particular business in which i was involved and the end of my employment. I decided at that point (summer of 2017) to concentrate fully on photography rather than seeking another technology job.
I enjoy many types of photography but landscape photography is my passion. I feel most inspired when surrounded by mountains and have made many journeys to Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Scotland, Italy and Iceland in search of these magical vertical worlds.
I also enjoy writing, so it was a natural step to start publishing my images and the story behind them in my Destinations Unknown blog.
